Two held after drugs found in car

DUNGUN: A labourer and his female friend were arrested after police found various types of drugs weighing 60.35g in the car they were travelling in along Jalan Besar Kampung Nyior Paka, here on Tuesday (Jan 6).

Dungun police chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said the pair were detained at about 3.10pm when officers conducting an operation stopped a Perodua Axia car they were travelling in.

"An inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of two blue plastic packets containing red and green pills believed to be yaba, weighing 59.56g.

"Also found was a clear plastic packet containing crystal powder believed to be syabu, weighing 0.79g. The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at RM4,553.90," she said in a statement on Wednesday.

She said the 39-year-old male suspect and 30-year-old female suspect, who is also a labourer, both tested positive for methamphetamine, with prior drug records dating back to 2010 and 2015 respectively.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect admitted the drugs belonged to him and were intended for distribution," she said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act. - Bernama
