Indonesian worker faces six summonses in Melaka JPJ operation

MELAKA: An Indonesian construction worker was slapped with six summonses after being detained during an operation by the Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) around Melaka Raya here.

The department’s director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said checks on Tuesday (Jan 6) found that the foreigner, believed to be in his 30s, was riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and with expired road tax and insurance, along with several other technical offences.

Part of the six summonses, she said, were also issued to his employer, while the motorcycle was confiscated on the spot.

“The man was among eight Indonesians, as well as one Syrian, one Myanmar and one Bangladeshi, aged between 30 and 40, who were detained for various traffic offences,” she said on Wednesday (Jan 7).

Siti Zarina added that during the operation, 55 vehicles were inspected; action was taken against 11 vehicles, and 43 notices of offence were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

She said a total of 11 vehicles were seized, comprising nine motorcycles, a car, and a pickup truck.

“The three main offences detected during the operation were riding without a driving licence, expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage,” she said.
