Two dead, five hurt in traffic light collision


KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed while five others were injured in an accident at a traffic light intersection along the Kota Kinabalu-Papar road near here.

A car driven by a man with four passengers is believed to have rammed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle in the tragedy that happened at 4am yesterday.

The five people inside the car were aged between 17 and 21.

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said one of the passengers, aged 21, was declared dead at the scene while a 17-year-old was pronounced dead during treatment at the hospital.

The driver and two other passengers suffered severe injuries.

The driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle, a 36-year-old man, suffered minor injuries while his 27-year-old female passenger was hurt, too.

Initial investigations found that the car had turned into the four-wheel-drive’s lane.

Supt Sammy said the case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act for dangerous and reckless driving causing death.
