Three Perlis assemblymen appeal PAS membership status

KANGAR: Three Perlis State Assemblymen (ADUN) have submitted an official appeal to the PAS Ulama Syura Council regarding their membership status.

One of them, Mohd Ridzuan Hashim, said that the three of them were of the view that the party constitution allowed any member subject to disciplinary action to appeal within 30 days of the date the Central PAS Working Committee took the action, reported Sinar Harian.

They also explained that the Syura Ulama Council has jurisdiction to examine and decide appeals, as stipulated in Clause 9 of the PAS Constitution, which details the duties of the Syura Council as the highest body for determining policy, interpreting, and resolving the party's main issues.

"This appeal is made with full order and confidence that the Syura Ulema Council has the trust and authority as provided for in the PAS Constitution," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 3).

The three assemblymen also stressed that they still hope to be accepted as PAS members and have never made any public statements regarding the incident.

According to them, this stance was taken to create space for a prudent solution through internal party channels, in line with the principles of discipline and morality in the Islamic struggle.

Regarding the action of filing an originating summons in court on Jan 2, 2026, they explained that the move was not intended to interfere in party affairs, but rather to obtain legal confirmation of whether the Speaker of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly had acted outside the scope of duties and powers provided by law or otherwise.

"We respectfully leave it entirely to the discretion of the court to determine the matter in accordance with the law," explained Mohd Ridzuan.

At the same time, they called on all parties to respect the ongoing legal and party disciplinary processes and to avoid any speculation that could undermine harmony and unity within PAS.

The notice of appeal was served on the General Leader and the Secretary of the Shura Council.

To date, no official statement has been issued by the PAS Ulama Council regarding the appeal.
