Body of second drowning victim found


DUNGUN: The body of Mohd Fazir Shafie, the second victim of a drowning incident at Pantai Sura Tengah near here, has been recovered.

Dungun police chief, Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir, said rescuers discovered his body at 12.35am yesterday, about a kilometre from the location where he was last seen.

“His body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for an autopsy,” he said when contacted.

The incident occurred at 10.27am on Thursday when Mohd Fazir, 37, attempted to rescue his sister, 39-year-old Nor Baizura, from drowning. Both were swept away by strong currents.Nor Baizura’s body was recovered at 10.54am on Thursday, Bernama reported.

The siblings had returned to their village for the holidays and were having a picnic with 13 family members.

Nor Baizura, a housewife, lived in Johor Baru, while Mohd Fazir worked as a lorry driver in Kuantan.
