Body of second drowning victim in Dungun found

DUNGUN: The body of Mohd Fazir Shafie, 37, the second victim of a drowning incident at Pantai Sura Tengah near here, was found last night.

Dungun police chief, Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir, said rescuers discovered his body at 12.35am, about a kilometre from the location where he was last seen.

"His body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for an autopsy, " he said when contacted.

The incident occurred at 10:27 am yesterday when Mohd Fazir attempted to rescue his sister, 39-year-old Nor Baizura, from drowning. Both were swept away by strong currents.

Nor Baizura’s body was recovered at 10.54am yesterday.

The siblings had returned to their village for the holidays and were having a picnic with 13 family members.
