PETALING JAYA: All parties must remain calm, as the political developments in Perlis need to be handled with maturity, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The Bersatu deputy president emphasised that political decisions and appointments must prioritise the interests of the people and the long-term stability of the state.
“The people place their full confidence in His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, to exercise his wisdom and prerogative powers in accordance with the state constitution in determining the appointment of a new mentri besar,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Hamzah added that the party’s main focus is to ensure the state government continues to function effectively, allowing it to concentrate fully on the needs and welfare of the people.
“This approach aligns with the mandate and expectations given to Perikatan Nasional by voters in the 15th General Election,” he said.
Meanwhile, a source from Perlis Bersatu told The Star that no decisions have yet been made by the party’s top leadership, following a call by PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to take action against certain elected members.
On Thursday, Tuan Ibrahim urged Bersatu to take stern measures against its assemblymen who had submitted statutory declarations (SDs) retracting their support for then mentri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
He said the move had created a “disharmonious atmosphere” in the state.
This follows the sacking of three PAS assemblymen in Perlis on Dec 24 – Chuping’s Saad Seman, Bintong’s Fakhrul Anwar Ismail and Guar Sanji’s Mohd Ridzuan Hashim.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced their immediate termination without disclosing the reasons.
