It’s going to be a rainy Christmas

PETALING JAYA: Umbrellas may come in handy for Christmas Day celebrations, as rain and thunderstorms are expected across much of the country later today. Strong winds and rough seas are also set to affect several maritime areas in the days ahead.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), many areas, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang and Sarawak, are likely to start the day on a brighter note, with some sunshine in the morning before wet weather sets in by evening.

For those in Perak, Terengganu, Kelantan and Sabah, a soggier Christmas is on the cards, with rain and thunderstorms forecast throughout the day.

With festive travel in full swing, MetMalaysia has reminded road users to be safe and ensure their vehicles are in good condition.

Beyond the rain, MetMalaysia has also issued warnings of strong winds and rough seas in the Asean region.

First-category warnings, with wind speeds of 40-50kph and waves reaching 2.5-3.5m, are in effect today for the Condore, north Bunguran and west of North Reef areas.
