Long-standing harmony unites Sarawakians this Christmas, says Premier

SIBU: Christmas is a means to continue building a strong, harmonious and stable Sarawak, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in his Christmas greeting.

In the message on Wednesday (December 24), the Sarawak Premier highlighted the long-standing spirit of “Segulai Sejalai” among the state’s multi-ethnic, multi-religious community.

Abang Johari also reaffirmed Sarawak’s progress towards becoming a “STAR” economy in Asean, citing the state’s abundant resources and potential in clean energy, petrochemicals, and semiconductors.

Next year, the state is expecting an estimated revenue of RM13.1bil against an expenditure of RM12.91bil, and therefore, a surplus budget.

"This reflects the GPS government’s commitment towards expediting development for the benefit of our people," he said.

Abang Johari added that education also remains a key focus, with the government introducing free higher education at state-owned universities starting in 2026 under the Free Higher Education Scheme.

"On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to wish all Christians in Sarawak Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“May we all be blessed with good health, lasting harmony and a strong spirit of unity," he said.
