KUALA LUMPUR: An accident in Setapak here involving an ambulance, two cars and four motorcycles has left one victim seriously injured.
In a statement, city Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said that the accident occurred on Monday (Dec 22) along Jalan Usahawan 6.
Those injured included a 30-year-old car driver, a 34-year-old ambulance driver, a 24-year-old passenger, four male motorcyclists, and a nine-year-old girl riding pillion.
"Preliminary investigations found that a car coming from Wangsa Maju was going straight when the traffic light was green.
"At the same time, an ambulance coming from Jalan Kilang, with its emergency lights and siren on, entered the intersection against a red light and collided with the car," he said.
This then led to the other vehicles crashing into the car and ambulance, he added.
"Based on video footage of the incident, it was found that the ambulance did have its siren and lights turned on.
"However, the ambulance driver was still required to slow down when approaching and entering the intersection," ACP Zamzuri said.
He added that one of the car drivers suffered serious injuries, including a broken thigh bone.
The other victims, including the child, suffered minor injuries, he said.
"All the victims received treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
"At the time of the accident, the ambulance was not carrying any patient but was en route to pick one up in the PPR Gombak Setia area.
"Two of the motorcyclists involved have yet to lodge police reports as they are still receiving treatment," he said, adding that the case is still under investigation.
