Number of flood evacuees drops in three states, unchanged in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in relief centres in Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu has dropped on Friday (Dec 19) evening, while the situation remains unchanged in Johor.

In PAHANG, there are 12,226 evacuees from 4,052 families at 79 temporary relief centres (PPS) as of 4.40pm, compared to 13,472 evacuees at 81 centres in the morning.

Kuantan saw the highest number of evacuees, with 10,573 people in 47 centres, followed by Pekan (965 people in 11 centres), Rompin (353 people in eight centres), Maran (161 people in four centres), Jerantut (145 people in four centres) and Lipis (five people in one centre).

Meanwhile, Temerloh (22 people in three centres) and Bera (two people in one centre) are the latest districts to be hit by floods.

In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees dropped to 1,202 people from 340 families as of 5pm, compared to 1,344 people in the morning, with 951 people from 269 families housed in 14 PPS in Kemaman, and 251 people from 71 families in two PPS in Dungun.

Two PPS in Hulu Terengganu were closed at noon today, with all evacuees allowed to return home.

In KELANTAN, there are 74 evacuees from 22 families at four centres in Kuala Krai on Friday evening, compared to 186 people in the morning, while in JOHOR, 356 people from 93 families remain in Mersing. – Bernama
