KUALA LUMPUR: The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) is coordinating immediate action with the relevant agencies in the six flood-hit states, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said this included early short message service (SMS) emergency announcements by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and channelling of welfare aid and necessities by the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Other measures, he added, include the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) operating the emergency pumps to control water levels and reduce the risk of flooding.
"I am deeply affected by the floods that have hit several states and by the plight of the victims. Please pray that this disaster will subside quickly and that the victims can return to their normal lives.
"The public is advised to always be alert, complying with instructions from the authorities and quickly evacuate to the temporary relief centres when instructed for their own safety and that of their families,” he posted on Facebook.
The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the frontliners and volunteers who continue to work hard to assist the flood victims.
Based on the latest data from the National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC) as of 8pm on Thursday (Dec 18), the six flood-hit states are Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor and Sarawak, with 13,419 victims sheltering in 95 centres.- Bernama
