Hannah thanks PM for new ministerial role, wishes the best to Youth and Sports Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh pledges to engage stakeholders in her new role, while wishing the best to her Youth and Sports Ministry colleagues over the past three years.

She thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for entrusting her with the responsibility, noting that she has worked with Anwar's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was then Women, Family and Community Development Minister, who helped shape the values of trust, people's welfare-based leadership and public service discipline.

"As a Member of Parliament (MP) based in Kuala Lumpur, I understand the challenges, needs and aspirations of the Federal Territories residents.

"Therefore, I am committed to involving stakeholders through comprehensive engagement, especially MPs in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan as they represent the voice of the people who need to be heard in every policy-making process," she said on her Facebook page on Wednesday night (Dec 17).

Yeoh added that her priority is to ensure the federal territories are administered with transparency and sensitivity to reflect the reality of the rakyat’s everyday lives, including improving government services, ensuring sustainable development, protecting recreational areas and reducing flood incidents.

"This trust is a great responsibility that I will shoulder with full commitment, integrity and determination to ensure that the governance of the Federal Territories continues to be strengthened in line with the aspirations of the Madani government," she said.

In the recent Cabinet reshuffle announced by Anwar on Tuesday (Dec 16), Yeoh takes over from Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who was dropped from the roster.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari has been appointed to take over Yeoh's previous position of Youth and Sports Minister.

Yeoh also thanked all those in the Youth and Sports Ministry for their cooperation, dedication and professionalism since she became minister in 2022, noting that various programmes and initiatives were implemented with their cooperation.

"The full support from the sports as well as youth organisations has made various initiatives successful to empower the youths and the national sports ecosystem," she added.

She thanked the athletes who represented Malaysia in various events, saying it is a great honour to do so.

Yeoh also advised the athletes competing in the SEA Games 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand to stay focused and continue to give their best in the games.
