Asean Foreign Ministers' meeting on Thailand-Cambodia tensions postponed to Dec 22

PETALING JAYA: The Special Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) on Thailand-Cambodia border tensions, initially scheduled for Tuesday (Dec 16), has been postponed to next Monday (Dec 22).

Announcing this, the Foreign Ministry said the postponement was done at the request of Thailand.

The special meeting will be chaired by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, in Malaysia’s capacity as the current Asean Chair.

"The convening of the Special AMM is a follow-up to the decision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia, and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand on Dec 11 in the effort to address the situation between Cambodia and Thailand," it said in a brief statement on Monday (Dec 15).

Further details of the meeting will be shared in due course, it added.

Both Cambodia and Thailand are currently engaged in renewed border skirmishes despite having signed the KL Peace Accord in October.
