Cops nab man who allegedly slashed Kamunting surau caretaker


IPOH: The police have arrested a 55-year-old man who allegedly slashed a surau caretaker in Kampung Bukit Jana in Kamunting.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the suspect was arrested in Kamunting on Wednesday (Dec 10) at about 4.30pm on Wednesday (Dec 10).

"We received a report about a 68-year-old man who was slashed with a parang at the Nurul Hidayah Surau.

"The victim was slashed multiple times on his head and arms," he said in a statement, adding that he was being treated at the Taiping Hospital.

"Investigations found that the suspect is a psychiatric patient.

"He has a record of 16 previous crimes, including drug-related cases," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for morphine.

"The case will be investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapons, he said, adding police would obtain a remand order from the Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Dec 11).
