KULAI: Over 9,000 Johor Affordable Housing Scheme (RMMJ) units are expected to be completed next year, says state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
This is part of the 30,000 affordable housing units promised by the state government over a span of five years.
"We are targeting 30,000 units priced at RM300,000 and below with some as low as RM50,000 to be built from 2022 until 2026.
"So far, about 20,100 units have been completed with keys handed over to the homeowners, while the remaining 9,900 units are expected to be completed and delivered next year,” he said after the kick-off ceremony of Perumahan Kasih Johor, an initiative under the Johor Budget 2026 on Saturday (Dec 6).
He said the RMMJ units are built in both urban and rural areas, with about half of the 30,000 units constructed in Johor Baru, Pasir Gudang, Pulai, Tebrau and Kota Iskandar.
“The remaining 15,000 units are being built in rural areas, including villages,” he said, adding that the initiative has covered all 10 districts in the state, including Pontian recently.
"The state government is targeting to build another 70,000 affordable housing units from 2027 to 2030, which will bring the total to 100,000 affordable homes in the state," he said.
At the same time, he also encouraged single individuals to apply for Rumah Prihatin Johor.
“Previously, only married couples owning land in their villages were eligible to apply for the scheme and received a RM30,000 subsidy. Now, the scheme has expanded to include single individuals and second-generation Felda settlers who own a piece of land.
“The screening process, which began two months ago, received 100 applications and so far, 80 applicants meet the requirements. The construction process for these houses is expected to be completed within seven months,” he said.
He added that Rumah Prihatin Johor has two categories and each approved recipient will receive a RM30,000 subsidy to build their own house.
The first category is priced at RM86,000 and applicants only need to pay RM56,000, while the second category is priced at RM66,000, and applicants only need to pay RM36,000, he said.
He also encouraged those who own land and live in rural areas to apply for this scheme.
