Man arrested after younger brother found dead in Sandakan home

SANDAKAN: A man has been arrested after his younger brother was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a house at Bandar Karamunting in Sandakan.

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm George Abd Rakman said the 43-year-old victim was discovered at about 5.30pm on Sunday (Nov 30) in a bedroom, after their mother noticed that the door was blocked and alerted neighbours for help.

He said initial checks showed that only the victim and his 44-year-old brother were at home during the incident.

Police arrested the elder brother at 8.45pm the same day, following information received from the scene.

“Following the arrest, the suspect led police to a pair of bloodstained trousers and three machetes believed to have been used in the incident,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

ACP George said the victim suffered severe injuries to the head, behind the ear, abdomen and arm from what is believed to be a sharp weapon.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, while the motive remains under investigation.

He added that neighbours had earlier reported hearing groaning sounds on last Friday morning but did not suspect anything amiss at the time.

“Initial information indicates that the suspect is unemployed and is believed to have mental health issues. He lived with the family in the house,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
