Voices of dissent emerge against Barisan in new administration

KOTA KINABALU: A growing uneasiness among Gabungan Rakyat Sabah assemblymen is emerging hours after Barisan Nasional was included into the state government.

Some of them have taken to social media to post their objections to Barisan’s inclusion.

Pantai Dalit assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya had posted on social media, stating: “Out of honour for my family and supporters, no Barisan.”

The screenshot of a message reportedly showing Tempasuk assemblyman Mohd Arsad Bistari stating readiness to oppose Barisan being part of the government has also been circulating.

Meanwhile, the coalition and party led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor have also made clear its opposition to Barisan being part of the GRS-led state government.

Wanita GRS said they opposed bringing Barisan into the government, stressing the state government must be free from old political conflicts that could impact the state’s development.

The wing claimed Barisan has been inconsistent in its support, describing how having the coalition in the new administration risks creating internal conflict.

“The presence of those who have previously caused instability is not aligned with wanting a clean, efficient and people-focused administration,” the wing said.

The Gagasan Rakyat youth wing said the people have given a signal and any attempt to deny the people’s desire is not right.

“Our previous experience must also be a lesson,” it said, referring to Barisan, which was part of the state government that attempted to oust Hajiji by withdrawing support in 2023.

The move, however, failed to materialise as several Barisan assemblymen backed Hajiji.

“Barisan has also openly refused to work with GRS and even launched political attacks on the coalition and Hajiji.

“Hence, it is not right for them to step forward in wanting to be part of the government,” it said.

Gagasan Rakyat is one of the component party in GRS.
