Tengku Zafrul bids farewell to Dewan Negara as two-term senatorship ends

KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz bids farewell to the Dewan Negara as his two-term senatorship ends.

“If yesterday I bade farewell in the Dewan Rakyat, on Tuesday (Dec 2) is my last day attending the Dewan Negara sitting,” he said.

He is the outgoing Investment, Trade and Industry Minister.

He wrote the message in a social media post with a photo of him descending Parliament’s spiral staircase alone.

“The experience of serving in Parliament is a trust that I value deeply,” he said.

“Even though I will no longer be a Senator after this, my support and commitment to the people’s and nation’s economic agenda will remain strong, God willing,” added Tengku Zafrul.

“Please pray for the best,” he said.

Senators are only allowed to serve two terms.

Tengku Zafrul has served two consecutive terms in the Dewan Negara since 2020.

This is the maximum permitted and he has held ministerial portfolios throughout.

He first entered government when appointed a Senator under then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He served as Finance Minister before later taking on the investment, trade and industry portfolio.
