Health and Finance ministries finalise PPO Plus to secure local pharma supply

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health and Finance Ministries are finalising the Off Take Plus Programme agreement to secure local pharmaceutical supply and boost domestic investment.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said this includes finalising the contract period of the agreement.

“We are focusing on companies involved in greenfield products producing novel drugs with a commitment to supply their products to the government,” he said on Tuesday (Nov 2).

Dzulkefly said priority will be given to medicines on the National Essential Medicines List and to medical devices.

“We also want to encourage companies with PPO Plus contracts to market their products internationally,” he added

Dzulkefly added that 13 companies have submitted applications so far.

He was responding to Rodziah Ismail of (PH-Ampang) on the implementation status of PPO Plus.

Rodziah also asked about plans to expand the programme to vaccines and biosimilars.

Dzulkefly acknowledged the importance of expanding the scope to vaccines and biosimilars.

He said the ministry recently grappled with a supply disruption for human insulin.

“That is what we are trying to address,” he said.
