Surgeon, DPP among 201 held at all-men sex den

KUALA LUMPUR: A deputy public prosecutor (DPP) and a surgeon were among 201 men arrested at a “wellness centre” in Chow Kit, which was suspected to be doubling up as a men-only sex den.

Of the 201 arrested, 17 were civil servants, including an administrative and diplomatic officer (PTD), a teacher and several enforcement officers.

On the outside, the centre seemed like any other shophouse along Jalan Raja Laut, but on the inside, it is a different story.

The place is equipped with many modern facilities for customers, including saunas and jacuzzis.

The centre, which operated under the guise of a health and wellness facility, is also equipped with a gym, spa, swimming pool and designated rest areas catering specifically for men, said Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Azani Omar.

The centre reportedly operated daily from 5pm until late at night, targeting those seeking to “unwind” after work.

“Investigations revealed that immoral activities were taking place on the premises invol- ving male patrons,” DCP Mohd Azani said at the scene on Friday night.

“Customers were charged a RM10 lifetime registration fee and RM35 per visit.

“We believe the operators promoted the centre through social media, where patrons would connect and mingle.”

Condoms and lubricants were also seized from the centre, which is believed to have been run- ning for the past eight months, he said.

The men, aged between 19 and 60, were picked up at around 8pm on Friday during a raid involving Kuala Lumpur police, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

The others arrested include locals and foreigners from South Korea, Indonesia, Germany and China.

Seven workers were also nabbed.

DCP Mohd Azani said intelligence and surveillance on the two-storey premises had been conducted for two weeks following public complaints.

He said police are investigating the case under Section 387B of the Penal Code for offences related to unnatural sexual acts.

Jawi also detained 80 Muslim men under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 for indecent behaviour in a public place.

All were taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters and are expected to be remanded.

The centre is believed to have a valid licence for a gym and a sauna.

Checks showed the venue had been widely discussed online among groups seeking social connections, with some claiming the centre offered “special services”.
