PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will act as a check-and-balance in Sabah after winning one seat in the 17th state election, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president said the coalition will conduct a comprehensive post mortem to improve preparations, grassroots machinery and overall effectiveness.
“We respect the mandate given by Sabah voters and accept the outcome with full responsibility,” he said.
“Congratulations to Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan on his victory in Karambunai, which will motivate Perikatan to work even harder,” added Muhyiddin on Sunday (Nov 30).
He said that Perikatan remains committed to being a principled voice in Sabah to ensure checks and balances and uphold administrative integrity.
Muhyiddin added the coalition will defend the people’s interests while offering a stable and mature political alternative.
Bersatu contested 33 seats and lost all while PAS contested six and won one and
Gerakan contested three seats and won none.
PAS’s Aliakbar won with a 371-vote majority in an 11-cornered fight for Karambunai.
In 2020, he became the first PAS member in the Sabah Assembly as a nominated assemblyman.
