Peninsular Malaysia flood situation improving, drastic reduction in evacuees at relief centres


KUALA LUMPUR: Floodwaters are receding as improving weather on Sunday (Nov 30) lead to the number of evacuees at relief centres in eight flood-hit states dropping to 14,888 people compared to 18,731 people this afternoon.

In PERLIS, there are currently 3,009 evacuees in 12 centres in Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau compared to 3,577 people on Sunday afternoon, with three relief centres closing, while in PERAK, only 4,840 people are at 30 centres in five districts compared to 5,920 people this afternoon, with two centres in Manjung and one in Perak Tengah closing.

The flood situation in KEDAH is also improving, with only 342 people in two relief centres in Kubang Pasu compared to 416 people this afternoon, but Sungai Bata has exceeded its warning level at 10.241m.

In SELANGOR, there are 2,789 people at 30 relief centres in Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam tonight, compared to 3,203 people this afternoon.

In KELANTAN, 940 evacuees remain in five centres on Sunday night, compared to 1,026 people in the afternoon as several centres in the districts of Kota Baru, Tumpat, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Gua Musang, Pasir Puteh and Machang closed this evening.

The number of evacuees in PAHANG also dropped to 585 people in 17 centres tonight compared to 1,132 people this afternoon, but water levels for Sungai Pahang in Sungai Triang in Jambatan Keretapi, Bera; Waterfront, Bera; and in Kuala Krau, Temerloh all are still above the danger level.

In TERENGGANU, there are 2,018 evacuees at 58 centres in seven districts compared to 2,634 people in the afternoon.

The water level of Sungai Paka in Kampung Luit (F2) is above the danger level, while Sungai Nerus in Kampung Bukit (F1), Setiu; Sungai Nerus in Kampung Jeram, Kuala Nerus; Sungai Kemaman in Paya Paman Pump House, Kemaman and Kampung Langkap (F1), Setiu have exceeded warning levels.

Finally, in NEGERI SEMBILAN, there are only 89 evacuees at two centres in Port Dickson compared to 109 people this afternoon. - Bernama
