PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional has won at least six seats in the Sabah state polls, according to unofficial results.
In the 2020 state election, the coalition won 14 seats, all involving Umno candidates.
Sabah Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin successfully retained his Lamag seat, delivering the first one for the coalition after polling centres closed at 5.30pm yesterday.
Bung Moktar was in a six-cornered race against candidates from Warisan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Impian Sabah and an independent.
Former chief minister and federal minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak lost in Usukan, according to unofficial results.
He was also involved in a six-cornered fight that included Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis of Warisan.
Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) chief Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup won the Sook state seat, while Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, who is also the Kimanis MP, secured the Bongawan seat.
Jafry Ariffin triumphed in Sukau, while Datuk Seri Dr Anil Jeet Singh, also of Umno, emerged victorious in Kunak, according to unofficial reports.
Official results also show that Barisan failed to capture the Sekong seat from Warisan.
The seat saw 30-year-old Mohd Zharif Aizat Samsudin contesting as the coalition’s young candidate.
The coalition also won in Tempasuk, which has 17,116 registered voters and saw a seven-cornered contest.
Barisan also reclaimed the Sungai Sibuga state seat, with Datuk Suhaimi Nasir declared the winner, according to unofficial results.
The victory extends Barisan’s winning streak in the constituency, marking four consecutive wins since 2008.
Barisan also retained the Bengkoka state seat with Datuk Julita Majungki emerging as the winner, according to unofficial results. The victory marks Barisan’s second consecutive term in that constituency.
