Sabah polls: Contingency plans ready amid bad weather, says EC chairman

TUARAN: Contingency plans are in place in the eventuality of bad weather disrupting the Sabah polls this Saturday (Nov 29), says the Election Commission (EC).

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun (pic) said officers will act based on information from local disaster management committees.

“We have our own standard operating procedures to manage possible disasters.

“Things will proceed as usual but if the situation gets too bad, we will mobilise assets including boats and rafts, among others if needed;” he said after visiting the polling centre here on Friday (Nov 29).

Ramlan advised voters to exercise their democratic rights early owing to the unpredictable weather.

“Dress appropriately and prepare for the elements,” he said.

Sabah will head to the polls tomorrow, with heavy rains having been forecasted across the state.
