KOTA KINABALU: Having good relations with the Federal Government does not mean that Sabah is “giving in” to it, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The caretaker Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman said more development could be pursued for the state with political stability and solid cooperation with Putrajaya.
“We must have strong cooperation with the Federal Government too.
“But it does not mean we are giving in to them,” he said in rejecting claims that the Federal Government was taking everything from Sabah.
Hajiji said during meetings, he remained steadfast when it involved Sabah’s rights.
As the dominant political group in Sabah, Hajiji said GRS wanted to ensure political stability in the state.
Calling for continued support for the coalition during his meet-the-people session in Kiulu yesterday, he said Sabahans should continue to support GRS “because Sabah wants to take care of itself”.
On claims that the GRS-led state government has failed, he said it was actually the other way round, adding that the Opposition only managed to be the state government for two years.
“This means they are the ones who have failed,” said Hajiji, adding that the Opposition had run out of ideas, was full of rhetoric and only raised issues without substance.
He expressed confidence in the GRS candidate for Kiulu, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, due to his service record in the constituency.
