THE Dewan Rakyat’s Deputy Speaker issued a stern reminder on observing decorum after two Perikatan Nasional MPs were overheard having a loud side discussion in the House.
Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor (pic) called out Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) and Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (PN-Ketereh), who were seen conversing as the Supply Bill debate commenced.
Ramli said their conduct breached Standing Order 41(e), which requires MPs to remain silent when another member is speaking.
“Perhaps the honourable members for Tanah Merah and Ketereh want to share their discussion with the rest of the House.
“I’ve already mentioned Standing Order 41(e). If it was a minute or two, I wouldn’t mind. But you are seated right there and I can hear you.
“The rule is clear. When the House is in session, there are procedures.
“If you wish to continue your conversation, I can ask you to leave. Shall I order it?” he added, stressing that such behaviour was “not something amusing”.
He said mutual respect in the chamber is important.
“If we can’t respect each other here when proceedings are underway, then what do we expect outside?” he said yesterday.
Following the reprimand, Ramli reminded all MPs to observe Standing Order 41 on conduct during sittings.
“I hope when I am presiding, Standing Order 41 is adhered to. I can tolerate some things ... but it is better to respect other honourable members,” he said.
