Rescuers find missing boy dead in river


KOTA KINABALU: A nine-year-old boy who is believed to have fallen into a river while playing near his home in Pitas has been found dead.

He was reported missing at about 11.40am yesterday when family members could not locate him after he was thought to have slipped into the river near Kg Kalipuon.

Pitas fire station chief Noor Jali Maslah said rescuers conducted a surface water search upon arri­ving at the scene.

“At 12.40pm, the boy was found unconscious in the river,” he said.

Rescuers administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he could not be revived and was later pronounced dead by police at the site.

Noor Jali said the body was handed over to the police for further action, and the Fire and Rescue Department ended its operation at 12.44pm.

No other casualties or hazards were reported.
