Missing nine-year-old boy found drowned in Pitas District

KOTA KINABALU: A nine-year-old boy who fell into a river while playing by the riverbank in the Pitas district has been found dead.

The boy was reported missing at around 11.40am, when his family could not find him after he was believed to have fallen into the river not far from his house at Kg Kalipuon on Sunday (Nov 23).

Pitas Fire Station chief Noor Jali Maslah said that when their team of rescuers arrived, they used the surface-water rescue method to search for the victim.

“At 12.40pm, the boy was found at the scene, unconscious,” he said.

He said they performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him, but he failed to be revived and was later declared dead by police on site.

Noor Jali said the body was later handed over to the police for further action, while firemen wrapped up their operations at 12.44pm.

No other casualties or hazards were reported.
