PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested two men in connection with a viral video that allegedly shows them engaging in an obscene act inside a car.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the suspects are aged 36 and 19 and were arrested on Thursday (Nov 20) and Friday (Nov 21).
He said police opened investigations after two reports over a viral video allegedly showing the duo behaving indecently inside a vehicle.
“Investigations showed the incident occurred in Bahau, Jempol and both individuals have been detained, including the 19-year-old,” he added.
“Police also seized a Perodua Alza and two mobile phones,” he said on Friday (Nov 21).
Alzafny said the case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code for gross indecency in a public place.
He said the offence carries up to two years’ jail upon conviction and added that police are also probing false claims linking the case to a mosque imam in Seremban.
He said this is under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“An offence under Section 500 carries imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both,” he said.
“Under Section 233, offenders may be fined up to RM500,000, jailed up to two years, or both,” he added.
Alzafny said police will conduct a thorough investigation based on existing laws.
“The public is advised to act responsibly and exercise caution when issuing statements or uploading content,” he said.
Earlier, the Paroi Jaya Mosque Committee denied claims that the mosque’s imam was involved.
The 42-second video showed someone knocking on a car window where two men were allegedly engaged in obscene behaviour.
The clip also carried a caption claiming the man was an imam from Masjid Paroi Jaya.
It added that a report had supposedly been lodged by the Islamic Religious Department.
The mosque committee has lodged a police report over the defamatory allegation.
