Teen trio charged with bullying 13-year-old boy in Parit

PARIT: Three teenage boys were brought before a Parit Magistrate’s Court on Friday (Nov 21) to face charges of insulting behaviour towards a 13-year-old male student last week.

All three accused, aged 16, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai during a closed-court proceeding.

The trio were jointly accused of committing the act by pushing the victim and pulling down his trousers in public.

The offence was allegedly committed in the hall of a secondary school in Parit, in the Perak Tengah district, at about 8.30am on Nov 14.

They were charged under Section 507B of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, which carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Mohd Syukri Abdul Talib, while the accused were represented by lawyer Nur Nadzrah Badarudin from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

In their appeal, all three accused requested the minimum bail on the grounds that they were still schooling and considering their families’ income levels.

The court then allowed each accused to be released on bail of RM500.

Dec 16 has been set for the next mention of the case to obtain a character report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
