Cops nab man for assaulting salesperson with meat cleaver


IPOH: Police have arrested a man believed to have injured a salesperson with a meat cleaver at Jalan Bandar Timah here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested near a goldsmith shop at Jalan Lahat on Thursday (Nov 20) at about 11.40am.

"The man attacked and injured the victim near a toy wholesale shop at Jalan Bandar Timah earlier.

“A report was subsequently lodged, and a team of policemen tracked the suspect to a goldsmith’s, where he was arrested," he said in a statement.

According to Asst Comm Abang Zainal, the suspect also damaged a lorry during the incident.

He said the man was found to have a criminal record of 12 prior offences, including five related to drugs.

“The suspect has been detained at the district police station.

"The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and Section 427 for mischief," he added.

A short clip of the cleaver-wielding man standing outside the goldsmith shop previously went viral.
