Sabah polls: Vote for a strong party to ensure a stable govt, says Tok Mat

KOTA KINABALU: As the Sabah polls enter their first week of campaigning, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has stressed the importance of voting for a strong party that could form a stable government.

A stable government, said the Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, was crucial in administering Sabah well.

“There are no other ways to ensure that development remains and people's affairs are handled well by forming a stable government.

“So, I hope Sabahans will go for the party with a good track record in administering the state, and the party that is together with the Federal Government,” said Mohamad when met by reporters at Kampung Binsulok at Membakut on Tuesday (Nov 18).

Mohamad said Barisan was entering the Sabah polls as an underdog because the coalition was not the state government in Sabah.

Therefore, Mohamad said it was important for the Barisan election machinery to work doubly hard in order to compete against its opponents.

“If our machinery is managed well, a giant could fall. So let’s not feel small because we are fighting against the giant.

“A giant may not always win because it is standing tall. We need to be like termites.

“If the termites unite, the giant can fall,” said Mohamad.

Membakut is currently held by its incumbent, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, since 2004.

Arifin will be defending his Membakut seat under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ticket in a 10-cornered fight against Barisan, Upko, Parti Impian Sabah (PIS), Sabah STAR, Warisan, Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS), Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) and two independents.
