KOTA KINABALU: Istana Negeri, administrative buildings, Chief Minister’s Department and political party headquarters are among the hotspots that police have identified from nomination day up to polling day for the 17th Sabah state election.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said these are some areas they will prioritise on, with some 4,300 personnel and officers deployed to be on duty on Nomination Day.

He said for the whole election, some 9,300 personnel and officers including 1,200 additional assistance from other states are tasked to be on duty.

He said statewide, police have identified around 15 critical areas including in Kota Kinabalu and east coast areas.

“We are not only looking at the political aspects but also keeping an eye on areas with active association or non-governmental organisation movements,” said Mohd Khalid.

“We will monitor for elements of violence as well as other security threats,” he added.

He said this after addressing police personnel in the pre-election gathering at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters in Kepayan near here, Friday (Nov 14).
