Saifuddin: 1,452 illegal loan cases lodged as of October


A TOTAL of 1,452 cases involving illegal moneylending, commonly known as ah long activities, including online loan scams, were reported this year up to October, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the total losses from these cases had amoun­ted to RM4.89mil, based on police records.

In a written reply to Wong Shu Qi (PH–Kluang), Saifuddin Nasu­tion said 450 cases, or 31%, had been solved so far.

“Of the solved cases, 213 were brought to court, 123 were clas­sified as no further action ( A) and 114 were categorised as unsolved,” he said.

Saifuddin Nasu­tion added that police inves­tigations found no deaths linked to ah long debt collection threats this year and no arrests were made in connection with such cases.

The government, in collaboration with the police and relevant agencies, is actively monitoring online loan fraud and illegal ­moneylending activities to safeguard the public and uphold ­public order.
