Sabah infrastructure to be boosted with RM17.5bil injection in 2026, says Finance Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Public infrastructure in Sabah is set to see a significant boost with RM17.5bil allocated for the state in 2026, says the Finance Ministry.

The ministry revealed that the allocation will be used for essential infrastructure such as improving roads, telecommunication connectivity, hospitals, and electricity supply.

“Major infrastructure projects such as the highly anticipated RM13.9bil Pan Borneo Highway Project have been resumed.

“There will also be improvements to essential facilities, including the Sabah Heart Centre at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.

“The government will also look to strengthen basic utilities with an allocation of RM1.2bil to ensure electricity supply continuity and RM765mil for the Southern Link project,” it said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 13).

The Southern Link project is a planned 330km grid from Sipitang to Tenom and to Kalabakan and Tawau, which aims to increase power supply capacity and stability in the region.

The ministry also revealed an undersea cable extension project that will span 3,190km at a cost of RM2bil to cover the routes to Tuaran, Kudat, Pulau Banggi, Sandakan, and Tawau.

It also announced that a new road connecting Kalabakan, Sabah to Simanggaris, Indonesia will be built alongside the installation of hybrid solar panels in small villages across Sabah.

Another RM1bil will also be allocated to fund Sabah water supply projects.
