Woman, son injured in tussle with knife-wielding maid

KUANTAN: A mother and her son were injured after struggling with their domestic helper armed with a knife at their residence in KotaSAS here on Tuesday (Nov 11).

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Ashari Abu Samah said the 57-year-old woman was upstairs at about 8.30am when she was startled by the screams of her 28-year-old son on the ground floor.

On going downstairs to investigate, the woman saw her son grappling with the 44-year-old foreign domestic helper in the living room.

"She tried to break up the fight, but the suspect allegedly swung the knife, hitting the woman on the head.  The woman seized the knife, and the domestic helper ran towards the kitchen to grab another knife,” he said.

"However, both victims blocked the suspect, resulting in another struggle in the kitchen,” he said in a statement.

He said the woman then reportedly took all the knives in the kitchen and threw them outside through a window before calling the emergency line 999 for help.

As a result of the incident, the man lost his left thumb and sustained injuries to his head and legs, while his mother suffered wounds to her head and left thumb.

Both victims, along with the suspect, who sustained an injury to her left wrist, were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for treatment.

ACP Ashari said police seized six knives and a pair of scissors at the scene.

He added that the suspect claimed to be experiencing work-related stress, but the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

The domestic helper has been detained to assist in the investigation.- Bernama
