BATU GAJAH: The odour was unbearable and cows in the area died one after another.

This came about after green and blue-coloured substances, believed to be chemical waste, were found along with other waste on a vacant land here.

Cattle owner R. Nithiananthan, whose cows would graze in the area in Taman Tronoh Baru, came to know about the waste after 17 of his cows died suddenly.

“I let my cows out to graze on Tuesday and they started to die the next day with the last one dying on Saturday,” he said during a press conference held by Perak Barisan Nasional public service and complaints centre chairman Mohd Rawi Abdullah yesterday.

Nithiananthan claimed that lorries were seen dumping waste at the location.

He also said he lodged a police report on Nov 6.

Another resident, Nor Affandi Ahmad, said the air in the area is awful.

“It can cause the skin to itch. Sometimes they burn waste at night. The smoke is unbearable and thick like fog,” he added.

When contacted, Perak Environment Department director Datuk Dr Mohammad Ezanni Mat Salleh said that they had yet to receive any official complaint over the matter.
