Social visit pass holders warned against working, running business in Malaysia


PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian government has issued a stern warning to foreign tourists entering the country on social visit passes not to work or engage in business activities during their stay.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was informed on Friday (Nov 7) of reports involving tourists who have misused the pass for employment and commercial purposes.

"Firm enforcement action will be taken against those found violating the relevant laws,” said Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesperson, at a post-Cabinet press conference here on Friday.

According to reports, as of September this year, more than 400 tourists had been arrested for abusing their social visit passes to work or run businesses in the country. — Bernama
