17 evacuated as flash floods hit Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A temporary relief centre has been opened in the district to accommodate flash flood victims following continuous heavy rain for more than three hours since Monday (Nov 3) night.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Banjir portal, a total of 17 victims from 11 families in Felda Chiku 5 were evacuated to the centre after their houses were flooded.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said the heavy rain that began at about 7pm also caused several residential areas and main roads to be flooded.

The affected roads are Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing near the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters and Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai at the Bendahara Traffic Light Intersection to be flooded.

"The residential areas hit by flash floods are at Kesedar Paloh 1, Paloh 3, Chalil, Felda Chiku 3 and Felda Chiku 5,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (Nov 4).

As of Tuesday morning, the rain has stopped, and the situation is reported to be improving. – Bernama
