'Bodybuilders' pharmacies' raided in Klang Valley

BANGI: More than RM3mil worth of unregistered medical products, specifically anabolic steroids, were seized in a raid across five premises in the Klang Valley.

The raid, carried out by the Health Ministry’s Pharmacy Enforcement division together with the police, seized more than 500 products.

The raided locations include a condominium here alongside four premises in Klang.  A couple in their 30s have been held to assist investigations.

“Our operation is also a continuation of previous raids, involving anabolic steroids,” said Mohd Zawawi Abdullah, who heads the Health Ministry’s Pharmacy Enforcement Division.

Apart from syringes and vials, Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARM) were also sold at the unit. Also discovered were psychotropics.

At the scene, the anabolic steroids were arranged according to the types and brands in an organised manner.

They were believed to have been sold between RM100 to RM500.

“They are believed to have been sold both physically and online. Their operations have been monitored for about two months," Mohd Zawawi said.

He added that the products were imported from countries including the United Kingdom and Germany.

“The products may have passed through false declarations," he said.

According to Mohd Zawawi, some 64 raids have been carried out on anabolic steroids since 2020, with the premises including homes, stores or factories and even gyms.

More than 130,000 products have been seized, with the accumulated value being at RM14 mil.

Among the most common anabolic steroids seized are methandrostenolone, stanozolol, oxandrolone and testosterone.
