Elderly woman dies, three hurt in two-car crash in Muar


MUAR: An elderly woman was killed while three others were injured in an accident involving two cars on Jalan Pintasan Bakri here on Wednesday (Oct 29) night.

Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Fettry Mahat of the Muar Fire and Rescue Station said they received a distress call at 9.47pm, following which a team of 12 personnel was dispatched to the scene.

In a statement here, he said the crash involved two cars.

"The 19-year-old woman driving the first car and her passenger, a 25-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and were assisted by members of the public, while the driver of the second car, a 44-year-old woman, was also hurt and her passenger, a 73-year-old woman, was found trapped in the car and unconscious," he said.

Mohd Fettry said the team used special equipment to extricate the trapped elderly victim, who was later confirmed dead at the scene by a Health Ministry medical officer.

He said the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

The operation was concluded at 10.51pm after the situation at the scene was confirmed to be safe. - Bernama
