SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government is appealing to the federal authorities to reconsider its decision to build a teaching hospital for Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, which is located in Nilai, elsewhere.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said although the state government had submitted an application to have the hospital built in Nilai a long time ago, the federal authorities have decided to build it in Kota Tinggi in Johor instead.
"We made the application to have the teaching hospital in Nilai some time ago but we have been told that it would be built in Johor.
"We hope the federal authorities will reconsider this as the best option is to build the hospital within or near its main campus," he said when met after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (Oct 29).
Aminuddin said Usim had also identified a plot of land for the hospital at its Nilai campus.
"Also, we feel the teaching hospital should not be built so far away from Usim's main campus.
"If the hospital is built here, it would also benefit the public in and around Nilai as they will be able to seek treatment here rather than be forced to travel elsewhere," he added.
Aminuddin, who is also Port Dickson MP, said he had also raised this in Parliament and hoped the federal authorities would consider the appeal favourably.
