Senior driver mistakenly accelerates into petrol station in Johor, sustains minor injuries

PONTIAN: A car crashed into a petrol station after a senior male driver accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said that the incident occurred on Monday (Oct 27), at 10.30am at a petrol station in Pekan Permas.

“The man was driving from his home in Serkat to the petrol station when the incident took place,” he said.

Supt. Mohammad explained that upon reaching the station, the driver mistakenly stepped on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to surge forward.

“The car hit the glass door and then entered the station,” he added.

The driver sustained minor injuries to his right leg and was treated at Pontian Hospital before being allowed to return home.

Supt Mohammad noted that the case was being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1957 (LN 59/1957) and may lead to penalties under Section 119 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
