MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized four tipper trucks carrying asphalt (premix) that exceeded the set load weight threshold during ‘Ops Perang Lebih Muatan’ which ended on Friday (Oct 24).
State JPJ Director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said that all the lorries were seized under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) following inspections on 284 commercial lorries at several hot spots around the state.
"A total of 97 lorries were checked for weighing, and out of that number, 64 of the lorries were issued summonses under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) for carrying excessive load throughout the duration of the operation which began on Oct 14," she said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 25).
Siti Zarina said some 35 JPJ personnel and six officers from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Melaka were involved in the operation.
She said the operation is in line with the announcement by the Transport Minister, and that JPJ Melaka has intensified comprehensive operations throughout the state to combat commercial vehicle offences involving excessive loads.
Siti Zarina added that the special operation aims to ensure all drivers and owners of commercial vehicles constantly comply with the regulations set under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987 (Act 334) and the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).
"JPJ Melaka will continue to carry out enforcement to ensure the safety of road users is guaranteed," she said.
