PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories until 5pm on Thursday (Oct 23).
In Perlis, residents are advised to be alert for severe weather.
In Kedah, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik and Baling may see thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.
Penang, particularly the Barat Daya and Timur Laut districts, are also expected to face adverse conditions.
In Perak, Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim are forecast to be affected.
In Terengganu, Kemaman is under alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain.
In Pahang, Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong and Temerloh are under the warning.
In Selangor, residents are advised to remain vigilant, with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya also included in the alert.
In Negri Sembilan, Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau are on alert for severe weather.
In Melaka, Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah are expected to experience adverse conditions.
In Johor, Kota Tinggi is forecast to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sibu including Kanowit and Selangau, Kapit including Kapit and Belaga, and Bintulu.
In Sabah, interior districts Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan are included, as well as Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna.
MetMalaysia issues warnings when rainfall intensity exceeds 20mm per hour or is expected to persist for more than an hour.
These warnings are short term and valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
