Cop killed after car crushed by trailer lorry in Muar


MUAR: A police officer died after the car he was in was crushed by a trailer lorry on Thursday (Oct 23).

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 55-year-old victim was killed in the incident that occurred along Jalan Parit Kangkong, Parit Jawa here at about 6.30am.

“The trailer, driven by a 23-year-old man, was reversing across the road when it was hit by the victim’s car.

“The victim, identified as Sjn Ishak Abdul Kadir, was heading from Parit Jawa town towards Batu Pahat for work at the time.

"He sustained severe head and body injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene," ACP Raiz Mukhliz said in a statement.

The deceased was attached to the Batu Pahat police headquarters’ narcotics crime investigation department, he added.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said breath and blood tests conducted on the trailer driver found he was free from alcohol and other prohibited substances.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a jail term of five to 10 years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and suspension of driving licence for a minimum of five years.

He urged witnesses to contact Insp Siti Ayu Mohamad Japri at 010-7724850 or go to the Muar district police headquarters’ traffic division to assist in the investigation.

“Road users are also advised to always drive carefully and obey traffic rules to ensure their own safety and that of other road users,” he added.
