Teen to be charged over schoolmate’s murder

PETALING JAYA: A 14-year-old student is expected to be charged today in connection with the murder of Yap Shing Xuen at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4.

The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) said the suspect would be charged at the Magistrate’s Court here.

“We have received the investigation paper submitted by the police in connection with the death of a 16-year-old student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama. After thoroughly reviewing the investigation paper, we found there is basis to charge the male student.

“We have decided to charge him under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” the AGC said in a statement yesterday.

On Oct 14, Shing Xuen was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her school compound.

Her death has shaken the nation, with calls for stronger safety measures in schools.

School authorities and government departments are making efforts to review safety protocols and provide counselling support to students and staff.
