School murder probe paper goes to AGC tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: The investigation paper on the murder of Yap Shing Xuen at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4, Petaling Jaya, will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers tomorrow, says the police.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said police have recorded statements from 148 individuals throughout the course of the investigation.

“We will refer the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor for further instruction,” he said when contacted.

ACP Shamsudin said the remand of the 14-year-old suspect, which ends today, is expected to be extended.

“The suspect will be brought to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court at about 8am for the remand extension application,” he said.

The suspect is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed the 16-year-old victim in the female toilet located within the school compound on Oct 14.

The police also seized two knives and a “kerambit” (a double-edged knife) from the suspect.

The influence of video games and certain social media content are among the elements being investigated in connection with the fatal stabbing incident.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar had previously said that police did not rule out the possibility that video games could have contributed to the suspect’s actions.

On previous claims by the victim’s mother that her daughter had suffered about 200 stab wounds, Comm Shazeli said police have yet to verify the exact number pending the final forensic findings.
