14-year-old to be charged for murder over BU school stabbing


PETALING JAYA: The 14-year-old suspect in the murder of Yap Shing Xuen at SMK Bandar Utama 4 will be charged on Wednesday (Oct 22).

The Attorney General's Chambers said the suspect will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.

“We have reviewed the investigation paper submitted by the police on the death of a 16 year old student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama,” it said on Tuesday (Oct 21).

“After thorough review, we found there is a basis to charge the male student. We have decided to charge him under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” it said.

Earlier, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the suspect's remand was extended until October 28.

On October 16, the victim’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, claimed her daughter sustained about 200 stab wounds and urged the public not to spread false information.

Police have yet to verify the exact figure pending final forensic findings.

On Wednesday (Oct 15), the 16-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times at the school’s female toilet.

The suspect was then arrested, and two knives and a kerambit were seized.
